How The Opener works

Four weeks. Every pick counts.

01

Get 1,000 points

Everyone starts even. Sign up with your email and pick a leaderboard name.

02

Pick a side

Each question shows a line, like Rockets 73% and Timberwolves 27%. Back the side you believe in. Safe picks show in cyan; long shots run hot orange and pay more.

03

Watch the line move

As more players pick a side, its price goes up. Spot a bad line early and you lock in the bigger payout.

04

Climb the board

Questions settle within days. The leaderboard posts every Sunday, and the top point total wins The Opener.

Where the skill is

Beat the line, not just the game.

Backing the favorite is easy, and it pays the least. The players who climb are the ones who spot lines the crowd got wrong.

Think the 30% underdog is really a coin flip? That's a 3.33× payout on a pick you believe is 50/50. Find enough of those and you win The Opener.

Questions

The short version

Does it cost anything?

No. It's free to play, and there's no way to buy points. Points have no cash value; only the tournament prize does.

How are payouts figured?

Your payout is your points divided by the line. 100 points on a 70% side returns 143. 100 points on a 30% side returns 333. If your side loses, you lose the points you put in.

Who can play?

Anyone 18 or older. We built it with college students in mind, but you don't have to be one. The official contest rules will spell out who can win the $100 prize.

How does the $100 prize work?

The player with the most points at the end of The Opener wins $100. Entry is free, and the winner is decided by points, not a random draw. Full contest rules will be posted before The Opener starts.

Who sees my picks?

Your display name and point total appear on the leaderboard. Overall results may be shared as totals, never tied to your name.

How do invites work?

After you sign up, you get your own invite link. When a friend joins with it, confirms their email and makes 5 picks, you get +100 bonus points, for up to 5 friends. Bonus points help you play, but the $100 goes to whoever wins the most points from their picks.

Can I suggest a question?

Yes, and we want you to. The best questions are the ones you're already arguing about with friends.
